Join us in welcoming William Groat of Rochester, NH, to the Franchise.com and Franchise Solutions team. Originally hired as a contractor in August 2014 to fulfill technology initiatives, Bill was hired on a permanent basis February 21, 2015.
Bill joins IT Manager, David Ostrander, and Senior Web Developer, Christina Larson, in the IT Department as an Associate Programmer to create a new platform and a website for both of our companies. “So much of the IT industry is focused on maintaining and patching pre-existing systems. It’s been very exciting to work on a project that leverages technology to get ahead of the curve, and I look forward to continuing to do so in my new expanded role,” says Bill.
Having served as a U.S. Marine and a Programmer at Tasman Leather Group, Bill has been in the IT industry since 2004. Bill first became interested in computers during his freshman year at the New Hampshire Technical Institute when he was enrolled in Architecture and, lucky for us, discovered he preferred computers over architecture.
When Bill isn’t sitting at his computer writing code, he can be found enjoying the outdoors. An avid mountain biker, Bill has participated in 4 races this year and plans on competing in a total of 16 by year’s end. Most recently he participated in “Fatty Fest” at Stratham Hill Park, a race named after the big tires used on the bikes in winter.
He is an active member of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) among several other clubs including:
- Mount Washington Observatory
- EFTA (Eastern Fat Tire Association)
- USA Cycling
- Farmington Fish and Game Club
Dave and Bill first met through their local cycling group, and he says Bill is a welcomed addition. “Bill has impressed me with his work ethic, organization, dedication to our mission and his technical skills. Hiring veterans has consistently been a low risk, high value decision in the past, and I think this relationship will add a lot of value to our organization.”
