It’s important to remember that finding wine is easy. If all your customers want is to get a bottle of wine, they can accomplish that goal at nearly any grocery store, along with plenty of other retail locations. So, as a business specializing in just wine, you’ll need to elevate the experience to give those customers a reason to make a special trip to your location. So what might those reasons be? Here are three possibilities.
While wine, in general, is easy to find, it might not be easy to find a specific label that a given customer desires. For example, if you carry a huge selection of wine that ranges in various styles and price points, you’ll be offering an experience unmatched by the grocery store. It will take time and effort to source all those different bottles from various suppliers, but this comes with the territory when wine is your focus.
In addition to a vast selection, another element that is likely missing from the grocery store wine experience is an expert who can provide information and direction while looking for the ideal bottle. If you are knowledgeable in this area and enjoy sharing that knowledge with others, your insight can become the motivation to shop at your store.
Shoppers are always going to be concerned with price. Offering a wide selection and expertise can draw in customers, but pairing this with competitive prices is a powerful combination. You’ll draw in more people with prices that are at least as good or better than what they’d find at the grocery store. While you might reserve some of your shelves for expensive, niche bottles desired by a small percentage of the market, you also need to have plenty of affordable options for the average buyer.
